This is a surprisingly rich release for such a venerable application. It makes some complicated tasks easy to do well while blazing new trails for future development. Best of all, perhaps, it feels like Photoshop. You can integrate the new tools at your own pace without suffering a paradigm shift. But why shift the Photoshop paradigm? When you've got it, flaunt it.

I have been testing out and reviewing Adobe Photoshop ever since the 2.5 version, back when every Adobe program had to be bought separately. Almost every new version has had major improvements and added features that photographers loved, (one "so-so" version I found to have almost no new items for photographers, but graphics people liked it). Recently, Adobe decided to also offer a Creative Suite package that combines all of the Adobe imaging programs into one group. Now, the new Creative Suite 2 has been released and it is more than anyone could have hoped for, with MAJOR improvements any photographer will love!

We have been evaluating beta versions of Mac and Windows editons of Adobe Creative Suite 2 over the last few weeks. It could be the best part of two months (end of May) before the CS2 starts to ship and our beta software was distributed in late February, so there could be some detail changes made before the final version ships.

Nevertheless, there is plenty of evidence that some much welcome fine tuning and integration of the CS components has been made. Here we have an illustrated tour of some of the new features in Photoshop CS2.
